I Have The Negatives

Lorrie's first Peacock has been completed and it's always been a favorite pattern of mine.  There's just the right amount of detail in it for its size and it does offer some fun cuts as well.   Add to that the intricate head dress and you have a window that anyone would love to own especially if it's been made by Lorrie.

And Kate made a 3D butterfly Lawn Ornament this week. The woman is a stained glass machine!

Sheri can knock out a suncatcher pretty quickly no matter the amount of detail it contains .  She began this when she walked in the door and managed to get it all cut out and partially ground even after agonizing over the colors that she's cut it from.  Although this isn't a beginners pattern Sheri is proving that this is no challenge for her at all.

Keri's ground through almost all of the pieces for her Praying Mantis Window in an extremely quick fashion. But that doesn't mean that her work is anything less than perfection because, as you can see, everything fits together wonderfully. Keri has taken to Stained glass like a fish to water!

Paula has made some serious progress on her GTO Window. There are a lot of thin, delicate pieces in this and she's already got those cut and ground. Paula has always leaned heavily into perfection and this detailed pattern proves that she's more than capable of achieving it!

Susan D has a lot of tiny Humming Birds and Flowers in her large window as is evident in the picture here. When I pulled the camera back to get the entire window into frame the pieces that she's been painstakingly working on sort of disappeared due to their size in the overall piece. You can still easily see how much work Susan has done for this and from here on out I'll be taking pictures with the camera much closer to her project.

Kandise foiled the Flower portion of her Address Window and then got it tacked together. Now that everything has been joined with solder you can really appreciate the detail that was hard to see when the white glass was sitting on white paper with the separations nearly impossible to see. To the left of the flowers you can see that Kandise is ready to begin the numbers portion of this beautiful and functional window.

Martha's Beach Scene Window is really showing off her ability to cut a piece of glass and then shape it at the grinder to make an absolutely perfect fit.  There's a lot of detail in this Window and Martha is handling it all with ease (even though she wishes it were a larger window).

And Cindy is grinding away at the petals of her Round Flower Panel and achieving some really impressive fitting all throughout it. Once all of her petals come together she'll move on over to cutting the green leaves that will make this come alive with color.

Let's Humming Birds are all cut and ground so she spent her class time foiling everything.   Now that she's seen how all of her colors have come together she's decided to turn this into a window by adding some background glass and a border.   All of that will be done when she next returns.

Lara said that she wanted to make a barrage of Oil Wands and she's pretty much done that! She has three of them completed save for adding the mirrors to the rectangular bodies that allow these to form the Kaleidoscopic images that you'll see when looking through the back. Lara not only soldered this trio of scopes but also managed to get the Front Surface Mirrors cut and assembled as well. We will surely see at least one of these completed when she comes back in.

Susan R has her LSU Panel all foiled and she's all set to tack this together and then solder it upon her return. Is there a chance that this will be completed next week? I'm thinking perhaps so!

Judy walked in the door, traced out her Cross pieces onto glass, cut it, ground it, and then foiled it as well. She said that she was shocked at how fast it all happened and I reminded her that I predicted this would be the case after she finished her first Cross last week. The first one of any series of windows or suncatchers always take longer to make than the ones that succeed it.

MiMi's pattern is filling in a piece at a time and her drive to create the perfect lamp hasn't diminished by even one iota. She comes in, grabs a few egg cartons of glass and sets to work at the grinder with a smile on her face knowing that the end result will certainly be worth all of the painstaking grinding that she's going through now.

Shelley's cats moved along briskly this week as they were foiled and tacked together after getting their noses cut and ground into place. Once that was done she cut her background glass as well which means that she'll be adding a border to this when she returns.

June has been busy picking out specific colors and placements for her Multi-colored Cat Window. This week we also see that the cat's pure green eyes have be cut to add some pupils to give it a little more life. I think it already makes a huge difference in this cats appearance.

Annette's LSU Window is officially headed towards the finish line now. The only things that she has left to cut out are the claws (she's still a bit undecided as to what color they will be) and the inner mouth of the tiger. That mouth holds some small teeth and I think that perhaps a few of the shaded pieces between the teeth and the tongue and lips will end up being done in lead. If we were to cut them in glass they'd surely cover over in foil and thus in lead as well.

Ann was busy grinding away at her background pieces for the fractures background of her Holy Spirit Window. She's moving quickly on this now that she's made a few of them and knows all of the shortcuts when it comes to grinding. At this rate it won't be long before we see this completed.

Cheryl has the second side of her Beveled Window soldered and it just needs to be touched up and get some channel added to it. I have to say that she's done an outstanding job soldering this largely because she worked slowly and patiently at it. A lot of people move way too fast when soldering projects that have been wrapped in 1/4 foiled but I warned Cheryl that using thicker foil means that you HAVE to slow down to give the extra lead some time to completely melt and form a smooth bead. Cheryl took that to heart and I'm sure that this will be completed upon her return.

We're beginning and then ending this post with Peacocks!  Bee liked Lorrie's Peacock Window so much that she's making one of her own.   She's going to make hers as an oversized Suncatcher and when she returns I'm going to show her what I've done in the past to the peacocks that I've made to add some pizazz and make this as striking as it can possibly be.

Stay vibrant,
Paul
