Pickled Quaaludes

MiMi's Heron Window is certainly a thing of beauty. Everything flows seamlessly and her colors are incredible- just look at the way the water has deep sections  of color that seamlessly connect through the different pieces perfectly.  It was all well planned on MiMi's part.

Cindy wanted to make a dog's head surrounded by a field of daisies and that's exactly what she created.  The dog himself came from a picture provided by the friend that she made this for and the daisies came from a 70's poster that I found online.  Put them together and you've got a very original window.

Susan D decided to make something completely different and came up with a very original Smartphone Stand.  But wait, there's more!  It not only holds a smartphone but pencils, pens and other what-nots in the compartment behind the phone as well!

Shelley finished her cat suncatcher and as you can see it's a 'Peeking' Cat which was designed to be placed along the side of a window so it appears to be peeking in to look around.   It certainly looks great (and so does the view).

Jeanette's Angel proves that you don't need a lot of color to make something beautiful.  The original pattern  came from a bevel cluster and Jeannette decided to use nothing but clear glue chip in her rendition of the design.  The end result is spectacular and she's also put a large round ring horizontally along the back side so that the Angel can be used as a tree topper at Christmas time.

Let is working on a Filigree Dragonfly Suncatcher of her own but has altered it a bit.  Her background incorporates no curves and instead uses a bordered square to add support to the beautiful but delicate Dragonfly.  It will then be hung at an angle to form a baseball diamond of sorts which we'll easily see upon Let's return.

Lisa's Luna Moth is pretty much complete at this stage of the game.  All of the grinding has been done and she's ready to begin wrapping all of her pieces with copper foil.   There are a lot of tiny pieces here so the foiling my take some extra time to complete but there IS a possibility that it could be finished when she returns.  We'll see what happens in our next post.

Jeanette not only finished her Angel but she also began working on a small Plate Window as well.  Like her Angel, this will be done entirely in clears.  It's already looking lovely with only a border left to add to it before she begins soldering.

Barbara H has her Magnolia Window almost all cut out with just one class of work involved so far.   There's only the background left to cut and then she can begin grinding everything.  Impressive!

Last week Judy was a bit dismayed at the amount of grinding that had to be done on her Crab Window but this week she muscled through it and got almost to the halfway point.  In fact, she may even be beyond the halfway point since she's working from the bottom up and there are much fewer pieces at the top of this pattern as compared to the bottom.  Nonetheless, slow and steady wins the race!

Linda L's nativity scene just needs a roof on it now and then she'll be able to border it off and then begin soldering.  It's turning out beautiful and everyone (including Linda) agrees that changing the star from one piece into four pieces added just enough more detail to make the entire scene look better.

Edmee's Yin and Yang window now has its borders attached and she's ready to begin soldering.  In fact, she's already begun soldering some of the straight lines along the borders and has shown great aptitude for this skill.  I can see a lot of great things being created in Edmee's future.

With only one piece left to re-cut and tack into position on her Mardi Gras Window, Sheri will need to think of what kind of glass she wants to use for her background.   Since there are only 5 pieces of glass in that background she may very well get a border cut out for this as well. This is really coming together now and turning out nicely as well.

Angie is plugging away at wrapping her Seafood Window.  Each week she gets further and further along and this week she's crossed the halfway point.  She's so close now that Russ is making way in the Kiln Room so he can make her newsprint background glass.

Kerry's Poinsettia Window is already beyond words.  This week he ground all of his fractures and streamers background glass and then wrapped and tacked it all together.   Once that was finished he cut out a cathedral green border which still needs to be ground but he'll do that when he returns next week.

Martha's been busy as a bee since she's got two windows in the works with both advancing quickly. Her Sewing Machine Window only needs to be soldered on the backside and her Mermaid Window got its background cut and ground this week.   I must say that Martha is doing incredible work, incredibly quick.

Last week you couldn't easily see the WELLNESS in Mary Grace's window but with the work she accomplished this week her WELLNESS is readily readable.  It won't be long until she moves on to the last word for the window: HOUMA.

After getting her Cardinal ground, wrapped and tacked together Cheryl filled in two missing pieces and tacked them into place as well.  That means that Cheryl is ready to begin her three layer border. Normally borders go quickly but this one can take a little time as there are many uneven pieces throughout it which form the unique shape that frames this window.

And last but not least we've got more from Susan D who is working on even more suncatchers.   I see numerous pinwheels and there are even some leaves there which I'm not sure what they're going to be a part of...  Unless they could be add-ons to the pinwheels thus turning them into pinwheel flowers.  Time will tell.

And there you have it, our first blog post created through dictation.  It was pretty wild to do, but there IS a learning curve to it.
