Bree is an amazing piece of stained glass art. The face is perfection and proves that an old art form can be enhanced through the use of computers (with the help of a kiln). Shelley did great work on this and if you're familiar with Bree Van de Kamp you have to agree that the glass that Shelley used for Bree's hair couldn't be any more spot on.
Linda L made this great little Desk Decoration (a deskoration?) for a teachers desk complete with a small wooden stand. Obviously the teacher's name begins with the letter H and the Apple and the pencil are perfect iconic teacher items. Well done indeed!
Annette's Tulip Panel is bordered by an iridised clear flemish glass that subtly draws on the purple flowers as well as the thin purple accent border. There are many tiny pieces in this pattern and the picture actually leads you to believe that it's much bigger than it really is.
Susan D finished up her 3D Cactus and even got it planted! Yeah, it's nice that she brought in the smaller flower pot to completely finish it off so I could get an actual picture of the completed piece.
Annette used the same purple glass that she used in her Tulip panel to make this lovely pair of flowers. At the last minute she decided to tack them together to form a free style flower heart Which worked out wonderfully and also gave us a wonderful idea for a circular window using this flower all around it.
Helen is making suncatchers and this week she walked out the door with two butterflies and a pumpkin. She loves working at home and that's why she's getting so many of these completed so quickly.
MiMi's got our entire solar system on her work table which even includes Pluto which rarely gets any respect. Her extremely hard to find black baroque background really fill in the 'space' between planets perfectly.
Jeannette's initial R Window would be further along however she had a largest piece of the R break incorrectly and she didn't have her backup glass with her so that she could replace it. Hey, it happens to the best of us but that's okay though because we can fix that small problem at any point in time once we have the replacement sheet of glass.
Ann is taking a break from modern crosses and another popular antique looking cross. Made out of blues and greens she's cut out everything and already has begun grinding. She'll border this cross once it's tacked together but what color that border will be is currently undecided.
At first glance you might think that Linda L is making a Butterfly Lawn Ornament but upon closer inspection you'll see that this is not THAT butterfly . Linda drew this up so she could mount a rain gauge along the body when it's completed and I can't wait to see what the finished product will look like. I think that what you're seeing here may very well be the birth of a new popular project here in our classes.
Martha's got an Oval Humming Bird and Iris in the works and she's well into it already. I love how expertly her leaves flow along the curves of the pattern even before she's even ground them.
Lisa's Sunflower is really coming together with the subject itself is just about all cut out already. There are a lot of tiny pieces in this window but Lisa is determined and more than able to have a great time while making this.
June is grinding away her class time at the grinder and moving far faster than I'd have thought possible. At this rate this will be all ground next week and then she can take a nice leisurely stroll through the foiling process.
Kerry is plugging away at his Bayou Cabin scene by adding a new element each and every week. Here we now see that the cabin has bushes surrounding it. He's used a green and lavender mix to make it appear as though the bushes have some flowers in them which is a nice effect that adds more color without going overboard on tiny pieces. He already has enough of those in this.
Barbara has just a few fill in pieces and the final border to cut for her Rooster Window. This week she assembled the inner multi-colored accent border and tacked it all into place. The final border is coming which means that this will be ready to be soldered before you know it!
Bea got her Fleur De Lis Window all tacked together and then we worked on figuring out the size for the border. We had to also take into account the size of the channel and the fact that some of the glass goes INTO the channel. We are trying our best to stay within a sixteenth of an inch and that is a bit trick when dealing with a circular window. But we think we have it!
Let's Butterfly Window got a background cut and attached to it and then she even cut out the inner accent border as well. It's all ground and ready to be foiled which means that the final border will go on this when Let comes back in.
Cindy's now got her background all cut and ground and will be wrapping those pieces over the course of the week so that she'll be able to add a border this this when she comes back in. Who knows, she may even get the front side soldered during the week as well. She's a stained glass machine!
Susan R has most of her USA Lawn Ornament foiled but has a slight issue with the stripes. She's going to finish wrapping all of her pieces and afterwards make a few adjustments to straighten those stripes and letters out. Normally we'd do this before foiling but the pieces are so small and tight that I'd prefer not to fix things until everything has grown (due to foil) to its maximum size. More on this next week.
Judy's Coffee Pot and Coffee Cup Window got a border attached as well as a coat of solder applied to its front side which means that there's little doubt that this will be finished when she comes back in. She's proved this week that she can get a border attached AND get one side soldered in just one class so only having to solder the back side of this will be child's play for her when she comes back in.
With each passing week we see more and more of Mary Grace's Logo Window being completed. She's well past the halfway point on this which means that foiling and then assembling the 4 sections of this window will happen before you know it.
Angie's New Orleans Window is all set save for hooks and some touch up work on the soldering. She worked quickly on this and it was a pity that it wasn't finished this week but you can only go so fast. This will be ready for its final picture very early into the class upon her return.
Melissa's Winged Cross Window is all tacked together and she's all set to begin soldering it when she returns. The bevels really add an extra added air to the window and the yellow border with its hints of pink running throughout works perfectly.
It turns out that Steve isn't working on just one Heart Lawn Ornament, he's working on four of them! With the hardest part of the framework bent and 'welded' he may perhaps be a little less stressed from here on out because the glass work it self will be a breeze for him.
Susan D has another Dragonfly under construction and you've just got to love how willing she is to work with tiny little slivers of glass. I have no doubt that this will be completed upon her return next week.
Betty is knocking out more suncatchers and this week she's got a Dove/Cross and a large 3D Butterfly Lawn Ornament all cut out and ground. Look out because these will be completed and at the top of the blog in our next edition!
And there you have it. All's well that ends well!
